Primary Schools' (Girls') Cup 2024-25

All schools were invited to enter a team into our premier competition for girls in either Year 5 or 6. Twenty-eight out of thirty-seven eligible schools wished to enter this season's competition. This dropped to twenty-six following the withdrawal from the competition of two schools.

As this number exceeded the maximum number of twenty-four teams, a qualification round for the group stage was necessary. Four teams were drawn at random (Haydonleigh, Oakhurst, Red Oaks and St. Leonard's C.E.) who played their qualification matches on or before 30th November (see below). 

Oakhurst and Haydonleigh, as winners of the two qualification matches were assigned to Group A and Group B. The remaining twenty- two teams were drawn at random and placed into either Group A, B, C or D.  Due to the withdrawal of Millbrook from the competition, St. Leonard's C.E. as one of the losing qualifiers have agree to take their place.

The six teams in each group will play each other once only in alternate weeks during January, February and March (see below for fixtures).

At the end of this 'league stage' the top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals 'knock-out stage'. These matches will be played at the schools which finished top of their group and will be officiated by a member of the Executive Committee or by a person appointed by them.

 Swindon Academy win 2:1 on penalties

The final was played on Saturday 17th May 2025 at Millbrook Primary School. Kick-off at 12.00 p.m. 

Grange took the lead with their first attack on Swindon Academy’ goal. A player was allowed to carry the ball through the defence and side foot it past a statue-like goalkeeper. The girls from Lower Stratton dominated possession and territory throughout the first half. When the Academy players did have the ball it was often surrendered cheaply and their forays into the Grange half of the pitch were few and far between. Grange’s goalkeeper barely touched the ball as her team mates in defence easily neutralised any threat from the Academy’s girls. Grange should have ended the game as a contest in the first half but several of their shots were aimed too close to the Academy’s goalie who simply stuck out her leg to block the attempt. A single free-kick to Swindon Academy was the closest they came to testing the Grange custodian but the effort lacked any power and went wide of the goal frame. The second half began with an early goal for Grange: a side-footed finish from a corner. Grange were far more technically able than their opponents which allowed Grange two further attempts on goal during the third quarter. Both of these were saved more by luck than judgement by the Academy’s goalkeeper. Apart from forcing a corner from the left which failed to result in any attempt on goal, Swindon Academy were unable to make any meaningful impact on the game during the second half. Grange sealed the win with a third goal. This time a swift break from deep saw their talented midfielder carry the ball towards goal evading at least two tackles before drilling the ball into the corner of the net.
